Ukraine Revokes Citizenship of Metropolitan Onufriy for Having Russian Passport
Orest Berezovsky became a victim of his alignment with the policies of the Putin-led Russian Orthodox Church.
On July 2, President Volodymyr Zelensky made a bold move by revoking the Ukrainian citizenship of Orest Berezovsky, who is Metropolitan Onufriy, the head of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate (UOC-MP), as announced by the Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) and formalized by a presidential decree. The revocation marks the next move in efforts to sever the dependence of domestic Orthodoxy from Moscow’s influences amid the ongoing war with Russia.
